Resurrection
(November 2022)
From the shattered pieces of our souls and bodies, we will soon rise.
This work draws on the enduring spirit of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement in Iran — a call born from grief, defiance, and the will to exist fully. The form merges the mythic gryphon, guardian and warrior, with fragments of domestic vessels: bowls, jugs, and floral china, once symbols of containment and daily ritual, now fractured and reassembled into a body that resists erasure.
The gryphon’s posture is one of both rupture and ascent. Its torso, scarred and pierced by remnants of the past, bears the weight of memory, yet its head and wings strain toward release. Each shard is a piece of history reclaimed, each seam a scar that strengthens rather than weakens.
"Resurrection" speaks to the collective act of rising from devastation, how women, like mythical beings, draw power from both their brokenness and their endurance. From ashes, from fragments, from silenced years, a new body forms: fierce, unbound, and impossibly alive.
